With companies going ga-ga about 3G technology in India, the latest to join the league is Vodafone. As the company is all set to roll out its 3G enabled services by the first quarter of next year.

The telecom major is waiting for the spectrum allocation currently and is planning to launch its services initially in nine circles. As recently only during the spectrum sale the company had bagged 3G in nine circles including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra & Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (East) and West Bengal.

The circles comprise of about 60% of company’s current customer base and the company paid around Rs 11,617 crore for the same. As Marten Pieters, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Vodafone Essar commented on the announcement that the company expects a strong response from these markets especially from the higher value customers as it is largely to cater to the higher urbane class.

Besides this, the company is also looking at possible opportunities for mergers and acquisitions considering if it is a good proposition. However the price and regulations are not favourable in the country currently for mergers and acquisitions.

Music label Venus has bagged the Hindi audio rights of the much awaited Rajinikanth and Aishwarya starrer, “Endhiran” from Sun Pictures, a part of Sun TV Network.

In a declaration, Mr. Champak Jain of Venus Records & Tapes said, “It can’t get bigger than this! Rajinikanth, Aishwarya Rai, A. R. Rahman and Shankar (director) will create history with the blockbuster film ‘Endhiran’.”

“Touted as one of the most expensive films with a heavy dose of special effects, its melodious music and sensational songs will take fans by storm. Venus is synonymous with good music and this prestigious project is a feather in our cap,” Mr. Jain added.

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minsiter and Treasurer of the ruling DMK, M K Stalin today dismissed as false, reports that his brother and Union Minister M K Azhagiri would quit the cabinet after the monsoon session.

”Such reports are false”, Mr Stalin said when newspersons asked him about reports in a section of the media that Mr Azhagiri would step down as Union Minister after the ongoing monsoon session to play a greater role in the party.

In a brief chat with newspersons after chairing the youth wing meeting here this evening, Mr Stalin said the reports were false and no credence should be given to them.

Meanwhile, the youth wing, adopted a resolution to go ahead with the August four agitation against AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa for frequently seeking adjournments in the wealth case, she was facing in a court in Bangalore.

Ms Jayalalithaa had ridiculed the proposed agitation, saying it amounted to contempt of court and intimidating the judiciary. She had attributed the delay in the proceedings to wrong translation of the statements of witnesses from Tamil to English.
